If you receive this error:

Error during CMS Conversion: Could not open scanner ICM Profile.

Try:

1. Uncheck Preferences/enable color management on the Xsane menu.

2. If 1. does not work, you may reset your Xsane settings by going to the terminal and type:

# rm ~/.sane/xsane/*.drc

Then restart Xsane.
